Research Vessels (R/V) often have special noise control requirements. Critical scientific measurements often require low levels of "self-noise" that necessitates a superior degree of attenuation for machinery noises and propeller noises radiated into the environment. Laboratory spaces are configured to minimize noise and vibration that could interfere with experiments. And good noise and vibration control is also important for improved habitability, maximizing effectiveness of the personnel performing ship operations and research during extended cruises.
